What we do

No pressure on the roof. Ever.

The dark streaks running down a shingle roof are a type of algae that feeds on the limestone filler in the shingle. The green clumps are moss. The gray crust is lichen. All three hold water against the roof, and moss works its way under the shingle edges and lifts them. None of it is dirt, and none of it rinses off in the rain.

We apply a roof cleaning solution at low pressure from the ladder or the ground, let it work, and rinse the runoff. Pressure washing a roof strips the granules that protect the shingle, which is why shingle manufacturers warn against it. We do not put a pressure washer or a surface cleaner on a roof, and we stay off the shingles wherever the roof allows it.

  • What comes off: black algae streaks, moss, lichen, mildew and the grime in shaded valleys and under trees.
  • What we treat: asphalt shingle roofs on houses and garages, plus the gutters and downspouts the runoff passes through.
  • What we protect: plants and grass rinsed before and after, downspouts routed away from beds, siding and windows rinsed at the end, nothing dripping onto cars.

Why it matters

What a clean roof protects

Streaks and moss are the visible part. What they do under the shingles is the part that costs money.

The shingles

Moss holds water like a sponge and freezes in it. Wisconsin winters turn that into lifted and curled shingles on the shaded slope. Taking the moss off while the shingles are still flat is a fraction of the cost of replacing that slope.

Warranty and insurance questions

Some shingle warranties and some insurance inspections look for moss and biological growth. A clean roof removes the question. We send photos of every slope when we finish so you have a record.

The look from the street

A roof is a third of what you see from the road. Black streaks make a ten-year-old roof look like a thirty-year-old one, and a buyer or an appraiser reads it the same way.

Straight answers

What to expect after the wash

  • Black streaks clear during the wash. You see the difference the same day.
  • Moss and lichen die the day we treat them, then dry, loosen and shed with wind and rain over the following weeks. Heavy moss gets brushed off gently first. We do not scrape or pressure it, because that takes the granules with it.
  • Gutters catch what sheds. If you want them cleared afterward, gutter cleaning is a separate visit a few weeks later.
  • Other roof types: cedar shake, slate, tile and metal each need a different approach. Tell us what you have and we will say plainly whether it is a roof we clean.
  • How often: a treated roof stays clean for several years. Roofs under trees or on the shaded side of the house come back sooner.
How it works

Three steps, no surprises

1. Free Exterior Assessment

We come out and look at the roof from the ground and the ladder: pitch, shingle condition, how much moss, where the downspouts drain. You get a written price before anything starts.

2. The day before

We text a short list: close the windows, move the cars out from under the roofline, unlock the gate, leave the outside spigot on. You do not need to be home.

3. Roof day

Most roofs take two to four hours. We wet down the plants, treat the roof slope by slope, rinse the siding and the beds, and send photos of every slope before we leave.

Questions homeowners ask

Before you book

Is the solution safe for my plants and my pets?

We wet the plants and grass before we start, route the downspouts away from the beds, and rinse everything again when we finish. Keep pets inside while we work and until the ground is rinsed. That is how we protect them on every roof.

Will anyone walk on my roof?

Only if the roof gives us no other way to reach a spot, and then only on a dry, low-pitch section with a harness. Nearly every roof is treated from the ladder and the ground. We never put pressure on the shingles.

What if a streak is missed or the moss does not shed?

Give the moss a few weeks of weather. If a streak or a patch is still there after that, tell us within 30 days of that point and we come back and treat it at no charge. That is the 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee. It does not cover new growth that returns on its own in later years.
